Hi there! My name is True, and I’m an Australian-based freelance editor.
As I work a day job still, my editing policy is that when I book a project, your project is my exclusive project for the time period agreed upon. I do not take on more than one editing job at a time in order to provide you with the attention you deserve.
I’m a lifelong reader and writer who has an Associate Degree in Creative Writing, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and a Master of Writing, Editing and Publishing.
My career history has more chapters than a library. I’ve worked as a registered nurse, a videogame production coordinator, a technical writer, and a construction manager, but the one thing I can never escape is the allure of a good story. I’m always reading. When I’m not reading, I’m writing, and when I’m not writing, I’m editing.
My areas of expertise are:
- Romance Fiction (including erotic/explicit content)
- Fantasy Fiction
- Mystery Fiction
- Medical terminology & texts
- Architectural terminology & texts
- Construction terminology & texts
- Procedure manuals & standard operating procedures
I bring a wealth of experience, both as a reader and as an editor to help you polish and hone your work to be the best it can be. I believe that everyone has a story in them, and it’s my job to help you share that story with the world. I like to work collaboratively with clients to make sure I am providing them with editorial assistance that is beneficial and constructive.
That’s the business end, but what about the REAL me?
At my core, I am a voracious devourer of the arts in all forms: books, music, games, film, and theatre… I love it all.
I live in Brisbane, Australia, which is somewhat of an annoyance since I don’t like the heat, and I really like European music festivals.
I write romance and fantasy novels. My main characters are generally overambitious women who like to have their cake and eat it too. I once wrote about a character in the same job as me (write what you know, right?) and accidentally prophecised an event that would occur in my own career several years later. I should have written about a lottery winner, damn it.
I try and ruin every TV show for my family by guessing what happens next. My daughter and I like to play a game to see who can guess the murderer and the motive first when we watch crime shows. It really irritates my husband.
My Honours thesis was titled “Grave Secrets: An exegesis examining the hybrid genre of Paranormal Fantasy and Crime Fiction”. It was largely inspired by my love of Buffy and a general dislike of Twilight and its successors. We don’t talk about rewatching Buffy as an adult though, okay?
My Master’s thesis was titled “Happily Ever After: Sexuality and Feminism in Contemporary Romance”. This was conceptualised during a rant about the lack of strong-willed career women in romance novels that don’t give up their goals and dreams the minute a handsome dude smiles at them.
I love research and academia. I considered doing a PhD, but it would be partly vanity, and partly so I can say “I’m the doctor/Not that kind of doctor”.
